Grenache/Syrah/Mourvedre

2013 marks the second vintage of the Throne blend, which is comprised of 53% Grenache, 35% Syrah and 12% Mourvedre. Guy searched tirelessly to find the perfect sites to create this special blend, homage to his time working harvests in the Rhone Valley. Our Estate Syrah and the Mourvedre add a richness of darker fruit, earthiness and spice to compliment the red fruit of the Grenache, allowing us to achieve what we like to call our “Super Cote du Rhone"

The Syrah in this blend is from the 2.5 acres planted on Soul Patch, our estate vineyard in the heart of the Russian River Valley. Soul Patch is cool site on an eastern facing hillside, allowing the Syrah and extended hang time on the vine.The Grenache is sourced from Saralee's Vineyard, just five minutes down the road from Soul Patch Vineyard.



All three varieties were aged in 100% French oak, separately. The Syrah was aged in Puncheons (which are roughly equivalent to the size of a double barrel). Puncheons allow for more micro-oxygenation and allow for increased volumes of wine to have less exposure to surface area within the barrel. The Grenache and Mourvedre were aged in mainly neutral standard sized barrels. The wine is blended 30 days prior to bottling.
