Sonoma Magazine, "100 Best Wines of Sonoma County, 2017": "Guy Davis makes a range of Pinots from Russian River Valley, and this is his flagship, a blend of grapes grown throughout the region. It offers lively cherry fruit, hints of cola, sarsaparilla and spicy oak, and goes down ever so easily, thanks to its silky texture."

Davis Family Vineyards 2012 Sparkling Rosé de Noir wine was awarded Best Sparkling by Ziggy the Wine Gal and a host of other judges at a blind tasting this past week. Ziggy did a "Summer Picks" blind judging with several other wine-lovers such as "Sommelier to the Stars" Chris Sawyer, Chaney Claypool, Steve Brown and a few others including Ziggy, of course!

Over 100 wines were entered from all over the world and we are thrilled to pieces that our Sparkling took Best of Class out of such a large group of wines and during a blind tasting with such prestigious tasters.

Davis Family 2012 Sparkling Rosé de Noir won Best of Class "Brilliant Bubbles" with every judge scoring it as the best. Judges' notes: "A scintillatingly summer delight, this sparkling rosé has notes of wild strawberries, melon, rose petals, and dried mandarin zest"

Wonderful wine it is for hot summer days or joyous celebrations and and pair exceptionally well with cheese, fruit, desserts and appetizers of all types.

We are rapidly selling through our sparkling, both at our tasting room and from people calling us to order who heard the show. So don't miss out, get it before it's gone. Regularly $55 a bottle, but as a bonus to you for being such loyal fans, we're discounting it to only $45 if you buy before the end of June! Click here to order!

WINERY OF THE YEAR!

Guy Davis, the proprietor and winemaker at Davis Family Vineyards, and I share a friendship that goes back twelve years. I have tasted every Pinot Noir he has crafted over the past twelve vintages and he has shown me the consistent ability to capture the complex aromas and flavors and captivating textures of Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. Guy’s son, Cole, has become increasingly involved in the winery’s winemaking as cellar master, and Guy’s other son, Cooper, who helped farm the family’s estate vineyard beginning at an early age, is pursuing a wine marketing degree at Sonoma State University, and active in the family winery and tasting room as well. Guy’s spouse, Judy, an RN, has shared Guy’s passion for wine, and along with Guy, planted their Russian River Valley vineyard. She assists with hospitality at the winery and represents Davis Family Vineyards at sales events across throughout the United States. The word “Family” in Davis Family Vineyards is no misnomer...(more)

The Best Wineries You've Never Heard of in Russian River Valley

This small, family-owned operation makes around 5,000 cases each year and has become a local favorite. Founder Guy Davis and his family have been growing grapes on the land for over 20 years, and now the second generation, Cole and Cooper, is helping him make the wines. From this meticulous crew, expect wines of the highest quality that reflect the terroir. And you’ll have a chance to meet the family while you sip. (more...)

PBS' new "Moveable Feast" series visits Davis Family Winery
It was inevitable that a PBS series about the nationwide farm-to-table trend would make its way to Sonoma County. When the producers of "Moveable Feast with Fine Cooking" contacted Duskie Estes of Zazu Kitchen + Farm in Sebastopol about filming one of the 13 episodes here, the chef jumped in with both cowgirl boots. As her partner in crime, Estes chose restaurateur Mark Stark, who owns five restaurants in Sonoma County. On July 31, the film crew captured Stark and Estes as they cooked for friends and family at the Davis Family Winery in Healdsburg.

"This winery speaks Sonoma County," Estes said. "You've got it in the glass, the produce is growing here, and the river is over there, which creates the climate."

A memorable Pinot Noir from Russian River Valley
"One of a kind: Pinot Noirs from the Russian River Valley are all about aromatics and elegance, and they are unlike wines grown anywhere else in the world. ... The 2010 Davis Family Vineyards “Soul Patch” Pinot Noir is among the five most memorable Pinots that I have tasted."

The Road to 30 -- Russian River Valley Celebrates 30th Grape-to-Glass Party
"The Russian River Valley appellation has great physical beauty and great wines, gorgeously lush ambassadors of what California's stunning climate can do with the right grapes planted in the right places. “We are discovering, much like happened in Burgundy over the centuries, that each sub-region or village has its own personality,” said Guy Davis of Davis Family Vineyards."

Davis Family Vineyards: Russian River Valley Delights
"Founder/Farmer/Winemaker Guy Davis says… “Our aim is to find that magical balance between winemaking expression and respect for nature’s gifts. It’s a style that lets us pour our hearts and soul into each bottle and wins us friends one glass at a time.” After tasting the wines... I agree!"

"D" Magazine talks DFV Wines in their Daily Destination For Dallas Foodies
"I like that Guy Davis, founder & winemaker for Davis Family Vineyards, also calls himself a farmer, as farmers truly understand the need to give respect to Mother Nature and understand that what nature gives you in each given year is completely out of your control."

The Best Food Money Can't Buy
"While most poor families get the world's leftovers, WHOA Farm grows organic food specifically to be given away. Started two years ago by Eddie and Wendy Gelsman, WHOA Farm's mission [is]to provide fresh, organically grown food to those who can't afford it. "It's not a crime to be poor," says Eddie. "Everyone has the right to eat well." Ever ambitious, the Gelsmans want to do even more. In addition to private donations, grants, fundraisers, monthly volunteer days, and an outreach booth at the Santa Rosa farmers market, WHOA is also cultivating creative financial solutions. ...With the generous help of winemakers Guy and Judy Davis, [they] will soon make WHOA Pinot Noir. Beginning in the fall of 2014, they hope to sell 600 to 800 cases annually, which could provide over 50 percent of WHOA's operating budget."

A Fresh Way to Feed The Needy
Eddie Gelsman, 60, and his wife Wendy Mardigian, 49, are the forces behind WHOA Farm, which stands for Work Horse Organic Agriculture. Gelsman is co-owner of Wine Library in Petaluma and has for many years been a proponent of organic produce. Gelsman is the primary donor to WHOA Farm, but he has plans to ensure the nonprofit’s future by growing it slowly and developing connections; Crane Melon Barn, which owns the property between his two parcels, has offered to lease that property and its pinot noir grapevines to WHOAFarm. And winemaker Guy Davis of Davis Family Vineyards, a long-time associate of Gelsman’s, is donating his time to help develop a WHOA Farm pinot noir.

A Hidden Vino Gem That Captured My Heart
"You could easily call it the most popular wine in Houston. Davis Family’s incredible Cabernet catapulted to fame after winning over palates and votes a couple of years ago at the Houston Stock Show and Rodeo to be named the Grand Champion – the highest rated wine in the competition."
